Why You Need To Think Of Yourself As An Athlete
Harder To Kill #020
Over the last 12 months, I have talked to well over 200 Men over 50 and there is one common denominator:
They believe they can improve their health.
This doesn't mean they don't have some limiting beliefs.
They do. We all do.
But over time, we can change these limiting beliefs.
Changing limiting beliefs is the key to reinventing, reinvigorating and producing the results we strive for and deserve.
A big part of changing a limiting belief is to do things you "aren't supposed to do."
As a Man over 50, you'll often hear (or maybe even say yourself) the following:
"I'm too old to do that."
"I would do that if I was 10 years younger."
"Those days are behind me."
It's all BS.
These limiting beliefs can be overcome and it starts with the stories you tell yourself.
Here's an example:
Once you join Argent Alpha, you have access to our "fitness program."
I'm using double quotes because we don't call it that.
We call it our Training program.
The specific name of our Training program is A3. It stands for Argent Alpha Athlete.
Men over 50 training as athletes.
Training means you have a specific objective in mind and you train and live in a manner that will help you achieve your objective.
This means you are not just a guy working out. You are an athlete training.
An athlete trains, improves, competes and pushes boundaries as part of pursuing objectives.
And when that athlete is part of a team, they achieve even more because of accountability, shared objectives and esprit de corps.
We view ourselves as athletes.
And how we view ourselves drives our behaviors and habits.
It's why we have 60+ year old men doing a dozen pull-ups (and beating some of our 54 year old guys, at least for now).
Men burning 20+ lbs of fat and adding muscle while they do it.
Improved range of motion, increased energy, renewed confidence.
Every single one of our guys is up for "comeback player of the year" in the over 50 category.
They are making the 2nd half of life the best half.
It's not like a fountain of youth, it is a fountain of youth.
If you view yourself as "an old guy" who "doesn't do those kind of things anymore" your behaviors, habits and health will all follow those beliefs.
I recently heard a friend talk about a birthday and she replaced the word "age" with "level."
She wasn't 58 years old, she was level 58 and was working on improving herself to reach level 59.
This powerful reframe uses the passing of time as a measure of improving. Gaining more knowledge, more experience, more wisdom.
The stories you tell yourself drive your outcomes.
Are you an athlete training for an objective? Are you working on going to the next level? Are you acknowledging your limiting beliefs and taking action to change them?
Here is the 1 tip for the week:
Reframe how you think of yourself. Change your actions to align with this new view.
Change the stories you tell yourself and you'll change your life.
